Message from chair no. 6

1. Icebreaking Research Vessel Araon has arrived in Tonga on the way back to Korea from Antarctica and has begun its underwater survey. The investigation is led by Dr. Sung-Hyun Park of the Korea Polar Research Institute (geochemist, InterRidge National Representative of Korea until 2019) and Dr. Seung-Sep Kim of Chung Nam National University (geophysicist, Korean member of the InterRidge Steering Committee).

2. Some members of the Steering Committee (for example, Milena Marjanović of IPGP France) are proposing a special session for the upcoming Fall AGU 2022. The deadline for the special session proposal is April 20.

3. We have to start thinking about organizing the InterRidge Theoretical Institute for 2023, most likely during the summer. One possible venue is Jeju Island in Korea. The island is referred to as Hawaii of Korea and is perhaps the best spot in Korea. Along with Theoretical Institute, we should also plan for the Next Decadal Plan beyond 2024 as the current plan ends in 2023. I think this could be during the Theoretical Institute wherever that is in 2023.
